Are Full Finger Rings the NEW Engagement Rings??

I saw this ad for diamond Finger rings and I was so certain if this had come out 2 years back then it would have certainly adorned my hand on my engagement, of course this is not something you can wear every day but can you imagine how awesome this would look on your engagement???

How about simple round full finger rings??
You might be able to wear that all day, and your husband's bank balance might still be saved to spend over Honeymoon??

What do you think??

PS: My brother's wedding got over! Post's on that soon!!
PPS: If you are wondering what happened and why am I not posting then its because I got nail extensions done and they are a pain to work with, getting them removed tomorrow, hopefully will be back to blogging soon!

STORE REVIEW : Chandni Chowk, Sudhir Bhai

Sudhir Bhai has certainly been a favorite haunt of Brides-to-be in Delhi for many years. Somehow I never got around to visiting it during my wedding shopping, so when it was my brother's turn to tie the knot I decided that atleast one of my dress would be from Chandni Chowk!

I went on a weekday around lunch time, so thankfully there wasn't much crowd, but as the time progressed it feels as if ever single bride in town has arrived at Sudhir Bhai. Its always better to go on a weekday and even better still as early as possible. While the staff is polite and Sudhir Bhai himself tries to accommodate everyone, the sheer amount of number makes it impossible to wait on everyone.

Infact I once went on a Saturday around 2, and we had to leave empty handed without even seeing one inch of anything after waiting for 45min, that is the amount of traffic Sudhir Bhai gets!

But once you have the undivided attention of a Salesman the number of possibilities he brings in front of you are so many! Now when I went in I had restrictions :

1. I needed a lehenga that was under 30-40k.
2. I wanted it within a month.
3. The lehenga obviously should be of my size, and since I am now defiantly larger than the normal sample size, it meant they had to either find a lehenga which I could fit into or find one that could be easily re-made within a month.
4. And most importantly I wanted a lehenga I would love

Despite the fact that the lehenga had to be made in less than a month and they would have to make it from scratch to fit me, the salesman brought atleast 30 different styles and designs! And consider this they were all within my budget!

Sudhir Bhai does not allow taking pictures, so I don't really have any of the store, just a few of me and my lehenga.

While I was searching for my lehenga a girl next to me was searching for her bridal one, and OMG such beauties where the designs, the best thing I found was that lehenga's above 1L had excellent quality and the similar designs if we were to purchase from say Frontier would easily cost an upwards of 2L. The lehenga below 1L were great too in terms of designs and quality, but if you are looking at lehenga's with the quality of Frontier I would recommend only to check the ones above 1L.

If however you are not a Quality freak then you would like all the lehengas, they do have a great quality-price mix!

The negative points I did find were:

1. They do not stitch the blouse, so even if you order your bridal lehenga from here they will give you a good fit lehenga but you would still have to take the choli to your trusted tailor.

2. A little lack in punctuality, I was late in picking up my lehenga, and after I called on the 5th day, past the date of pick up, They still needed one more day to get it at the store. I would strongly advice that you take atleast a 10 days buffer while telling them by what date you want it ready and call them before going to the shop!

What I did love was the way they wrap the lehenga's, its like a little gift :)

One thing I would love to applaud them for is the well kept toilet, yes their toilet. If you have been to Chandni Chowk you would know how tiny, and how crowded these shops are and then to find a toilet that is so clean, smells great , has different soaps to choose from and a clean towel is such a grateful feeling!

Anyways, I do HIGHLY RECOMMEND Sudhir Bhai for every Bride-to-be!

Ok to be honest, I am not a Makeup-All-Day kind of girl, given any day I prefer being bare faced than having a layer on me. However there are times when I do need that extra coverage and when you are a bride-to-be or a newly wed, a little makeup does help the heavy outfits you have on.

Here is a look into what I do when I want just a tad-bit of makeup :

Wedding's not on the Ground Floor?!

I have attended 2 weddings this season where the function was held at the top floor and the 1st floor. While having a terrace wedding or a closed banquet wedding has a charm of its own I felt that both of them lacked one thing :

The Grand Entry of the Baraat.

The whole visual looks great when the Baraat comes to the venue and they are dancing on the gate, the Bride's family is waiting impatiently for them to come in already! And then someone from the grooms side pulls someone from the Bride's side to dance and within minutes everyone is dancing! That feeling of pure joy and happiness is one of the great moments of a wedding.

However when the wedding is held at a hotel terrace top, or any other floor; the dancing gets restricted. A lot of hotels don't really 'allow' dancing or loud music within the premises, and honestly a 'Baraat dance' happens ONLY on a Dhol!

The other disadvantage that I see is that the whole baarat can't reach at the same time; so you had your dancing on the road right outside the Hotel and now its time to enter, a few take the lift, the other stairs, the end result is not everyone can reach at the same time and lets face it, most relatives are more interested in eating then assembling near the door so they can enter with the groom. So either a close family member should go up and instruct clearly that everyone wait and enter together or give everyone prior instructions....well if you know big Indian families you know its not really possible.

I dunno if I like the idea of a Terrace wedding or a different floor wedding; there is certain grace to it, but some issues as well.

Comment below and tell me what your thoughts are I would really like to know...

What is it with celebrities and their understated weddings?!?!? Do they get too tired of wearing heavy clothes all the time, or maybe because every other person coming to their wedding would be wearing something stunning, they want to stand apart so they end up wearing something subdued.

Although Soha Ali Khan looked fabulous in her wedding day attire, I don't really think its the best she could have worn, I wish there was something more to it, something to aww us with :/

She does look like the 60's Heroine though...I dunno why I don't like this, maybe its the lack of color, because she does look stunning, just not 'Bridal'.

Look at this old photo of her for a jewelry brand :

Now that looks like a bride :/ , Anyways apart for the wedding, her Mehendi and reception outfit weren't too much to talk about :

Is it just me, or is this kurta really ill-fitted?! I hate giving negative comments on this blog, but really, why would someone do this for there wedding?!

I like the skirt of this lehenga but certainly not the choli!

Pictures of Other guest :

OMG, Love that Saree!

I can't decide if I love it or hate it!?

Out of everyone Neha Dhupia's Lehenga is the only one that I do like

Has he gained weight?! What is that fit??? Why so Bulky?

OMG, Karishma Kapoor looks gorgeous!!!

I love the combination, but that lehenga looks real cheap!

Makeup Artist Review : Tanvi Kochar

When I was getting married I was pretty sure what I want and who I want, but for my brother's wedding I just knew that I had to look pretty and different. That's it. I had no inspiration picture, no thoughts, nothing at all.

The trouble this time was that I was wearing the same clothes that I wore for my wedding for 2 major functions!

My Tilak lehenga for Bhaiya's Tilak ceremony
and
My wedding Lehenga for Bhaiya's Wedding

So it became essential that I looked different from what I had looked earlier! Now as much as I loved my wedding MUA (Ramita) I really wanted to go for someone different for the following reasons :

1) I strongly feel that every creative person has a 'signature style', and being a designer I know this is true, so even if my old MUA would have created a different look, it wouldn't be TOTALLY different because her signature style would kick in some where.

2) I wanted a little modern approach so wanted someone a little more experimental.

3) I wanted to try a new MUA so I could review it for you guys ;P

After calling, researching and agonizing a LOT I finally decided to go with Tanvi Kochar, and I am glad that I did!

The one thing that I liked about her was that she was on time, and not a lot of MakeUp Artist usually are.

ENGAGEMENT

For Bhaiya's engagement I really wanted a 'married' look, because it was the first major family event after my wedding and I wanted to 'look married'; but after my first meeting with Tanvi I decided to kind off let her do her work and not stress on things, I was pretty much happy with the results.

She gave me bold eyebrows, which she said were the 'in' thing, to be honest I am not the kind of person who likes to follow whats 'in' and I was pretty nervous about it, when I looked into the mirror I thought the only thing noticeable on my face were my eyebrows, but Tanvi reassured me its looking good and it takes time to get use to it, my mom liked it too so I went ahead with it. I feel in love with the look by the time we were in the car.

She also gave me a really bright lip color which I would have never thought I could carry it off but it looked good!

Going to the Venue

In between the ceremonies
The Hair Style was inspired from a messy Hair look from Deepika Padukone, Tanvi showed me a picture on the day of the event and I asked her to go ahead, since I had no other idea and I only knew I wanted half up and half down.

Although by the end of it all it was a little too messy for me as my hair tends to be fuzzy. But dunno, I don't 'not like it', but certainly not in love with it.

Post function, after 6-7 hours of application
Pretty much good, except that my nose got oily, but then again I have quite a oily nose

Tanvi also did my Mother's makeup, which was nice and pretty 'Mother of the Groom' like :

I loved mom's hair!

TILAK

I was concerned for Tilak since I wore the same thing for my own Tilak and a LOT of people (including all of you guys) loved that look, I had no idea how I would up the ante.

Tanvi got a different Hair stylist for this function and I liked her WAY better than the last one, we decided on a Messy side bun, although Tanvi did advice to go for it on the wedding day, I opted otherwise. I had never done a messy bun before and I was afraid what if it doesn't turn out ok, or my face ends up looking fatter, I certainly have put on quite some weight in the last few years.

I dunno if its the makeup or light, I love how my eye color looks in this picture!

Post the Event, after 4-5 hours of application

I ABSOLUTELY loved my mom's look on this day! I felt this is the best she had looked so far! The makeup was on-point! So elegant and beautiful!

WEDDING

My biggest priority this day was I am going to dance and I want my hair open, give me something I can manage. Also I don't want to look traditional, I looked all the bit traditional for my own wedding I don't want the bronze bride look this time!

There are very rare 'normal' photo's of me this day , because either I was hooting and dancing or making faces, because this is what you do on your brothers wedding :/

Also on this day, since most of the rooms were busy we got ready in a room which had less light, so Tanvi had a box with 'green room' type lights, they were yellow and I feel because of that the base did not come out great. Our makeup looked a little yellow in some lights, unfortunately we noticed this post Tanvi had left so couldn't do much, However in the bright lights of the venue it looked perfect, but inside the house or any other covered room it looked like we had a bit of Haldi on our face :/

I was not completely happy with my hair this day, it looked good, but not 'different' I initially wanted a middle parting but we tried a LOT of different middle parting styles and none of them worked well with my face. Tanvi did give a lot of attention to make sure I was happy with the look but we were running short of time and I went ahead with it, not my favorite hairstyle of the lot but it looked good.

My dad certainly said I looked 'modern', which was in a weird way a compliment so I guess the whole look worked out pretty much in the end.

I was worried that my hair will not stay the same after dancing, but it did, and I danced a LOT! For 1 hour from the house to the mandir and then from the barat assembly point to the venue for 2 hours straight! I am pretty surprise at the number too, I really didn't think it would take us 2 hours to cover 200 meters :/

Anyways here is a picture after all that dance! Also Tanvi did my brothers and my husbands makeup as well, just the base.

My Mom's makeup and Hair were great on this day too! I think all in all Tanvi Kochar really did an excellent work on my mom!

RECOMMENDATION :

All in all I was pretty happy with how the whole thing turned out, mom and me looked great on each and every day! Everyone loved my side messy bun, mom looked sooo great on each and every day! It was a good experience, and I would certainly recommend Tanvi to all of you!

Plus Size Indian Bride : Important Tips and Tricks

$

Don't worry you are in safe hands! Most of the times when you read a blog post about 'Plus Size' dressing you wonder whether its been written by a skinny girl, or someone who is not really 'plus size' , well I totally am, yes true I haven't crossed the size 22, but I have been in that ball park.

At present I am a Size 18-20 and my brother got married a few months back, I ended up wearing the same lehenga's I wore for my own wedding (when I was a size 12-14 ), although the eyes weren't really on me, it got me thinking how I would have managed if it had been my wedding...

1. Find the perfect fit!

I know this sounds like the lamest advice, because obviously everyone knows how important it is to find the perfect fit, but you know what what we don't understand is that if there is a slight issue with fit for us plus sized goddess then what happens is that when the Makeup Artist tightens the lehenga on our waist it creates a 'Muffin top' effect.

So make sure the lehenga is of your size and not loose! So when you zip it up, it should fit you perfectly.

2. Get a heavy Chunni or with Motif on sides

Incase you kind avoid the 'muffin top' situation what you can do is to have your chunni draped in a way that it hides the tummy, or to have a motif on the side so it covers your tummy without looking obvious.

3. Experiment with drapes!

Try to create drapes and layers where ever you want to hide stuff!

4. Wear colors that suit YOU!

Every girl has that one color in which she looks absolutely gorgeous! Wear that! The glow and the beauty on your face will be such a delight that people will not notice anything else! It's true, try it!

5. Show some skin!

Yes you read that right, I know a lot of designers recommend full sleeve, full length choli, no neckline for the plus size bride, but I disagree.

By this I certainly don't mean that you expose things that you are uncomfortable with, It just means make sure you have a good neckline, or a short sleeve's anything which will give a break to continues fabric.

Left Vs Right
6. Lose Weight

I am your friend and I am going to be harsh with you, lose wight. If you are unhappy with your body then you need to take better care of it, I know its easier said then done, but it can be done!

See I am nothing against a plus size girl, I mean I am one of you, but the thing is being healthy is super important! I am not asking you to be skinny, I am asking you to be healthy and happy, however if you are comfortable in your own skin, then you go girl!

(Psst....if you are looking for a Nutritionist/Dietitian then I recommend Dt. Vaishali Gaur , I am on her diet right now! You can check out her blog : vaishaligaur.blogspot.in or contact her directly on  info.vaishaligaur@gmail.com , she does online consultation as well )

7. Love Yourself

Yes this is important in finding the perfect bridal lehenga, because unless you love yourself you will not be able to find something that you love ON you.

My Dearest Dearest Girl, you are getting married, The Boy choose YOU, out of all the lovely girls in the world he picked you, and you picked him....if that's not enough to show you how beautiful you are, then I dunno what is.....

Engagement is the one time I think that a girl wants to look womanly yet still like a girl, the whole concept of being a 'married' woman hasn't yet sunk in and you really want to look 'young'. (Well to be honest women ALWAYS want to look young. )

Anyways Engagement is the time when you want to show that you are a 'girl', and a LOT of Brides like to opt for the 'girly' natural look.

Up until 2014 we were still trying to nail the no-makeup makeup look for weddings, but I think by the time 2015 rolled in we got a lot of expert Makeup Artist on that. What 2015 dictates is to have the hair match this All-natural look!

And what better way to do it then by a Messy Updo! Something which looks chic and fun!
